I tore my rotator 15 years ago. Was having pain in shoulder 3 weeks ago. This brace worked.I tore my rotator cuff about 15 years ago. Every now and then my shoulder will become stiff and difficult to move. I also experience occasional pain in this shoulder and my neck. About 3 weeks ago I was stretching my shoulder out when I heard a "pop" sound in the shoulder. At the same time I felt a sharp pain that seemed to get worse every time I would lift my arm. I was thinking I might have re-tore the rotator cuff in the shoulder. I bought this brace so I could keep my shoulder in place without it hurting and to limit my movement so I would not injure the shoulder any further. I planned to give it a week and if the pain was still there only then would I go to the doctor. After about 5 days the pain was pretty much gone and now 3 weeks later the shoulder feels like its back to 100 percent of where it was before I heard the pop sound in it 3 weeks ago. I feel like I can start lifting weights again right now but I think I'm going to give it another week or two just to be safe. I think this brace really helped my shoulder recover faster than normal because it kept my arm in it's proper position. While wearing the brace it would not let me lift the injured shoulder's arm too high or in a painful position which can happen easily if forget that your shoulder is injured while your going about your daily activities. The only negative thing about the brace is that it is impossible to hide that you're wearing it, unless you wear a turtle neck. It almost looks like you're wearing a holster or a bulletproof vest or something nefarious under your shirt. If you wear it under a t-shirt, which is what I did, you might want to just stay home after work until your shoulder heals and make sure you tell your coworkers what the tactical looking shoulder vest thing is that you are wearing or else you might freak people out. I would definitely recommend that you do not wear this into a bank or airport. Also I would definitely recommend that you go to a doctor if your shoulder hurts more than two weeks. If your shoulder hurts more than 2 weeks then you probably have a torn rotator cuff which is a serious injury that requires medical attention. 5Stabilizes Shoulder But Doesn't Prevent DislocationI used this brace for snowboarding prior to having surgery on my labrum. Although the brace stabilized my shoulder joint, I managed to dislocate my shoulder three times while using the brace. I had the brace tightened so much that my fingers would begin to turn purple. On another note you must have someone assist you in order to put the brace on. After a months use, the brace began to deteriorate, ripping at the seams as shown in other reviews. Overall, this product will decrease the chance of dislocation, but will not stop it. 2Good idea, but needs to be tougherWear this snowboarding after shoulder surgery. Shoulder feels more stable with the sully and I like the strap system. After 2 weeks it started to tear where the Velcro comes across the bottom of the bicep. There should be a heavy duty stitching in this area to prevent that. Everyday it rips a little more. This shoulder stabilizer is a great idea, but does not hold up to daily use. 2Great shoulder supportIt fits really well. I am a woman and normally wear a small, which is what I ordered. It keeps my shoulder in the socket really well and relieves my pain. 5There are many ways this can be used so I recommend watching a YouTube Video to learn how to properly ...I tore my rotatory cuff approx 1 year prior to making the purchase. I am extremely impressed with the quality and protection this has given me! I play slow-pitch softball (Adult) for a coed travel team. Yes I play a hot spot 3rd base, so getting the ball to 1st base was simple with the help of the DonJoy brace. There are many ways this can be used so I recommend watching a YouTube Video to learn how to properly put it on for your specific injury. This is an awesome product to have and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! I will continue to use after my surgery on my cuff as well. This brace is top quality, just like what you would get from the distributor, but quicker and cheaper. 5I wish I there were 6 stars!I bought this brace to replace the one I bought for my son after he had surgery for a torn labrum. He wore the original one out and that cost $200. This was the exact same model as the first one. He was able to safely finish play his senior seasons in high school for both football and basketball. It fits very comfortably and restricts you for over extending your arm/shoulder to wear it would get injured again. Make sure you buy the correct size. It's supposed to be tight and works best that way. Long story short, he just took it with him to college and is now wearing it in football camp! 5Ordered for my grandson.My grandson suffered a dislocated shoulder and we ordered this item to ensure there were would be no additional damage. He completed football season well. Did the job! 5Provides excellent stability in multiple directionsWas in between sizes so there is some gapping even when pulling the straps and closures tight. Use an undershirt to help with the perspiration as the neoprene is very hot when you are exercising. Provides excellent stability in multiple directions. Different strapping combinations can support the shoulder in all directions. Allows functional use of the arm without feeling like the shoulder will pop out. The velcro is very strong and holds just where you need it. Requires 2 people to put it on to get it on with minimal gaps and to get the straps tight enough to support the way they are designed to. 4Very Good, grippy inner honeycomb aligns shoulder wellOkay, through 20+ years of shoulder problems and 4 shoulder surgeries, I think I have a good understanding of what works and what doesn't.For me, what it's for...DISLOCATING/SUBLUXINGFirst, make sure you get the right fit, if it doesn't fit right I don't think it would work as well.Here are the advantages:1) There are 4 straps in addition to the base, so the directions (also on youtube), give you how to use 2 additional straps for your specific problems (anterior dislocations, posterior dislocations, inferior dislocations, multidirectional dislocations). No OTHER product breaks it down like this.2) With just the base alone, you can already feel your shoulder being placed in correct alignment. Why? Because the interior is a grippy, tacky honeycomb surface that sticks to your skin. So it's like wearing KT tape everywhere on your upper body. Given that its grippy, it will pull your shoulder back in a good way.3) Because it's not really many multiple individual straps over your skin, there is much less of a risk for skin chafing, irritation.4) see reason 1, you can add 2 extra straps to the base and apply them per your problem, and tighten them as much as you wantWill it cure you? I think it depends...if your dislocations are severe, probably not. From what I can tell, if your shoulder subluxes pretty much no matter what, you may need surgery or at least a period of immobilization. Also note, if you have ongoing instability problems, ask for an MRI arthrogram for that shoulder, a normal MRI will not necessarily show some of the culprits involved in structural reasons for instability. Even arthroscopy doesn't reveal these problems unless the ortho is looking for it (I know, my last one skipped over this). For me, all of this is related to the rotator interval, which I'd never heard of prior.More on will it cure you...well, if your subluxations aren't horrendous or years in the making, or even if they are long term and chronic but mild, then this brace is your best shot at a cure (along with good PT advice and an ortho consult for imaging) 5
