Better cushioning than stock Asics insolesWhen I started running I replaced insoles on my sneakers. When I started wearing Asics Gel Nimbus running shoes, I thought I wouldn t have to worry about that any more. But my new Asics Gel Nimbus sneakers don t have the same cushioning as my older ones. After a run, my heels would hurt. I got these insoles to replace the Asics ones and my feet feel better after a run now. 4It's much harder to cut these correctly than it the directions suggest.I've bought three pairs of these insoles, and two of another brand, from Amazon. I paid for them myself, and I'm not compensated in any way for any of my reviews.I'll cut to the chase for impatient folks...if you can get these cut correctly, they are VERY comfortable, and worth the cost. But here's the thing...they, like all other brands that are similar in design and intent, are very thick in the heel area. If you have to trim them, as I do, to fit your shoes, that means you're cutting through that very thick heel portion with scissors, or something similar to scissors. Have you ever cut a piece of foam rubber with scissors? were the sides straight after you got through doing it? No, of course not, because the material squishes together as you cut, and when you're done, it UNsquishes...leaving an edge that is rounded in shape.Well, the same thing happens with insoles. Yes, they can be cut with scissors. After fitting three pairs of these, and the two others I got for other shoes, I can say that it works MUCH better if you use something like industrial shears...like scissors for the garage. But whatever you use to cut them, you're going to have a very hard time getting the edge to match up with your shoes. In my case, the first pair of these I fit, I did what everyone else probably does...I took the thin insole from my shoes, and laid it atop these new ones, then traced out the shape. I very carefully cut the new insoles, and did a very good job of following the line pretty precisely. But, when I fit them into my shoes, I noticed that in the heel area, there was a gap between the top side of the insole and the shoe's upper. If you think about the foam rubber analogy I referred to above, you will get the idea...that 'bulge' of material left behind after the cut sticks out further than the upper surface of the insole...and it holds the upper of the shoe slightly away from the insole. The forward half of the insole is thin, and this doesn't matter. But around the back of the heel, where it's thickest, it's not only visible, it's something you can easily feel on your foot. And if you wear the shoe like that, thinking as I did that it will not bother you after a few minutes, you might wind up with a blister where your food rides that gap (as I did).To fix this, I used a Fordham tool (think professional Dremel tool) with a sanding drum, and I carefully shaped the edge of the insole, all the way around the heel, so that it matched the inside of my shoe. It was slow, and messy, and tedious, and I doubt anyone without the same level of OCD as I have would bother to take the time.On the second set (for a different pair of shoes), I thought I'd avoid this by using a razor blade instead of a scissors or shears to cut the insole. The idea here was the razor would be sharp enough to easily cut through it all, while I was able to hold it straight...since the insole wouldn't 'squish' together like it did when cutting it with shears or scissors, it wouldn't be left with a bulging edge when done. Well, this just didn't work. The soft part of the insole is much too 'gummy' to slide against a razor. It really does need to be cut with shears or scissors. So, was left to do the same laborious fitting with my rotary tool. In the end, it was worth it. Now that they fit, they work fantastically. For reference, the pair of these I use the most are in a pair of ASICs trail running shoes, which I use primarily for walking. I walk 5 miles at a 4mph pace each night, around our neighborhood. Since I walk after dark, and the sidewalks are horrible (uneven, broken, slanted), I walk on the street itself. The streets here are concrete, so it's an unforgiving surface, and the thin insoles originally in my shoes left my feet aching at best, and blistered when I'd push the pace! I'm a bigger guy, at 250 lbs, so these insoles are working for their living!!Two things...first, I don't know HOW one would go about cutting these to the correct shape while avoiding this issue. A bandsaw, perhaps, but I don't have one of those handy! I could have placed the original insole all the way to the back of the new one, and not had to cut the very back of the heel, but that's not really the proper method, AND I'd still have had to trim around the sides! The problem was just as bad on the sides as it was in the very rearward part of the insole. Maybe there is a way to do this I haven't thought of...but just cutting it with scissors as the instructions tell you isn't going to give you that great a result.Second, this is NOT exclusive to these insoles! I had the same issue with the other brand that I used for another pair of my shoes, and one for my wife. Same issue, same problem and I had to do the same thing to fix them. So, I don't want to give the impression that another brand wouldn't have this same problem...I think ANY brand that has a thick heel is going to have the same problem! So, maybe you have a way to prevent this issue...or maybe, like me, you're willing to work around it. If so, then you'll probably be happy with these...like I said, now that I have them fit correctly, they are turning out to be very comfortable. 4Great product, great variety of useInserts are really tricky. But I really like these. Not just the running insoles, but all the categories offered. I have flat feet and am constantly looking for a shoe insert to help relieve pain for normal activity and running. 5After 1 week I will say they are comfortable and and my legs and knees are not tired ...Use these in my Merrel's that I wear for work. After 1 week I will say they are comfortable and and my legs and knees are not tired at the end of the day. Good insole for the price. 4Didn't expect much but work well...I was all set to buy a set of insoles for $40 at the local running store but decided to gives these a whirl.. One of my feet has been bothering me for over a year but I'm trying to get back into running. I didn't initially think that they provided enough support but my runs have been good on them! I'm not saying that they are like "walking on a pillow of clouds" but then again is that what you really want?? They are thinner than the insoles that came with my shoes but do a much better job. Feel I got my money's worth. 5Comfort without Spending Too MuchI love the comfort of the product. Very good replacement for my worn out insoles that will allow me to continue using my running shoes for a little while longer. Wanted to get a better than basic insole but not spend $50+. This product was perfect! The packaging was cool, and recyclable also. 5Absolutley love theseI'm a competitive runner and I'm constantly burning through insoles. I've been looking for an insole that was firm enough to not breakdown quickly, but soft enough to train on the pavement. This is the one!!! I've already purchased more. 5Dont regret buying thisI mainly run for exercise but the insoles I originally used werent made for running. This led to an issue where my feet felt they were on fire before I could even do my running routine. I saw other insoles with more plenty of reviews and carefully read them but ultimately gave these insoles a chance. Absolutely dont regret my purchase and glad I gave these insoles a chance because I saw an immediate improvement and had no burning feet. 5Good for runnersI recently started running every day as a part of my workout program. I then developed major pain on the bottom of the both of my feet. I am 32, but never invested in shoes designed for running, just athletic shoes. After waiting a couple weeks until my feet felt better, I put this insert in the same shoes I was running in and the pain did not come back. These have worked great and the pain has not come back after 3 weeks. I will make sure to update this after a month of running 5 days a week to see if it holds up.Random note: To make sure the fit perfectly, make sure to do what is recommended and walk around for 4-5 hours worth of time with the inserts in the shoe before running. This way they will fit comfortably and you can adjust them to how you want. 5They match well with lightweight performance running shoesI'm pretty happy with the way these inserts enhance the feel and performance of my running shoes. I'm always looking for the perfect match between lightweight, speed and support in my running shoes. I recently bought some New Balance Fresh Foam Beacons. They certainly fit the bill but like many lightweight running shoes the inserts are thin, flimsy and really add little to the performance. I got these to replace the stock inserts and instantly I feel more firmness and pop when I run. I like that energy transfer back to my foot as it helps with speed. It helps that they are light although they are definitely a little heavier, it's negligible. Also, they were easy to cut/ trim and came in a nifty little box. 5
